Automattic Introduces AI-Enhanced Readability Assistant for WordPress Bloggers
Automattic Inc., the company behind WordPress.com and the open-source WordPress platform, has unveiled a new AI-powered feature aimed at helping bloggers refine their writing. This innovative tool, named Write Brief with AI, integrates seamlessly into the WordPress editor as part of the Jetpack suite of tools.
Elevating Writing with AI
Write Brief with AI builds on Automattic’s previous AI innovations, complementing the broader AI content creation tools introduced last year. It is designed to work with existing text, offering real-time feedback on readability and style within the WordPress editor.

- Readability Enhancements: The tool highlights complex words, lengthy sentences, and areas lacking clarity, suggesting improvements to enhance readability.
- Color-Coded Suggestions: Each type of suggestion is marked with a unique color, allowing users to quickly identify and address specific issues in their writing.
- Real-Time Feedback: Writers receive a readability score in the sidebar, which updates as they make changes, helping them adjust their content dynamically.
Development and Availability
The feature, initially developed as a hack week project under the name Breve, quickly gained popularity among the team. Automattic Senior Product Designer Noam Almosnino noted its positive reception and the decision to release it publicly.
Currently, Write Brief with AI is available for free to WordPress.com-hosted sites during its beta phase. It is initially disabled by default but can be activated by adjusting the AI settings in the WordPress Post tab.
