WordPress 6.6.2 Released with 15 Core Bug Fixes

WordPress 6.6.2, released on September 10, 2024, is a maintenance update that includes 15 bug fixes to the Core and 11 fixes to the Block Editor. Spearheaded by Tonya Mork and Vicente Canales, with guidance from Aaron Jorbin, this release precedes WordPress 6.7, set to arrive on November 12, 2024.

Core Fixes in WordPress 6.6.2

This version addresses 15 critical issues, enhancing performance and usability. Key fixes include:

  • CSS Specificity: Adjustments made in specific themes to resolve conflicts in Button Block CSS.
  • Global Styles: Now blocks empty CSS rules and malformed selectors for custom block CSS.
  • Text-Wrapping: Corrects issues on the About page that caused improper line breaks, especially in Japanese.
  • Template Bug: A problem that erased template contents when renaming templates has been fixed.
  • Site Health Tool: Correctly displays directory sizes now.
  • Customizer Autofocus: The autofocus query string parameter has been repaired.
  • Theme Search: Fixed issues affecting the search functionality in the installed themes section.

Block Editor Fixes

Among the 11 Block Editor fixes are:

  • Layout Style Specificity: Improved for the non-iframed editor.
  • Custom Block CSS: Fixes for pseudo-element selectors.
  • Featured Image Block: Reduced specificity of default style rules.
  • Template Part Duplication: Prevented in non-block-based themes.

This release also brings multiple enhancements to the Post Editor.
